LOW-E BENEFITS
By tripling a window's insulating value, the Low-E coating saves, on average, one gallon of oil per square foot (40 liters per square meter) per year for 40 years. Based on a silver coating only 100 atoms thick, each silver atom saves gadzillion coal and oil atoms; these are the hardest working atoms in renewable energy. As detailed in Section 19, Low-E Windows have:
- Tripled the size of the entire window industry from approximately $30 (€20) to $100 (€65) billion
- Glass Industry Profits of approximately $8 (€5) billion
- Glass Manufacturers Profits of approximately $2 (€1.5) billion
- Sales of 42 billion square feet, the size of Rhode Island, or 3.9 billion square meters, or 1,600 square miles, or 4,000 square kilometers,
- Market Penetration 95% in the industrial world
- Saving Consumers approximately $770 (€500) million per year of fossil fuels
- Saving approximately 14 million Lives from the diseases caused by fossil fuel pollution
- Reduced World Energy Consumption and fossil fuel Global Warming Emissions by 3.7%
